Innovative thinking is one of the most important skills needed to survive and succeed today. Therefore, educators should endeavour to develop students’ innovative thinking skills. Innovative thinking is based on students using their creativity, developing problem solving skills and learning to think critically. Innovative thinking will help students to be successful in their future careers. Therefore, teachers can follow the steps below to develop students’ innovative thinking skills.

Activities for Creativity and Imagination
Teachers can include creative activities in the classroom to develop students’ creativity. For example, they can have students design something, write a story or create a drama scene. Such activities will help students to use their imagination and generate new ideas.

Teach Students Problem Solving Skills
Teachers can use different methods in the classroom to teach problem solving skills to students. For example, they can have students analyse a problem, think of possible solutions and choose the best solution. Such activities will help students think critically and come up with innovative solutions.

Projects and Tasks Based on Students’ Interests
Teachers can enable students to think innovatively by providing projects or tasks orientated to students’ interests. Projects related to students’ interests will help students to focus on their own interests and generate innovative ideas.

Activities for Cooperation
Teachers can enable students to produce innovative ideas by co-operating with each other. For example, they can have students work on projects in groups. Such activities will help students to communicate with each other, share ideas and benefit from each other’s perspectives.

Use of Technology
Technology is an important tool that supports innovative thinking. Teachers can enable students to generate new ideas using technology. For example, they can ask students to create a video or animation using digital tools. Such activities will help students to think innovatively, use their creativity and generate new ideas using technology.

In conclusion, teachers need to take various steps to develop students’ innovative thinking skills. Including creative activities, teaching problem solving skills, presenting projects for students’ interests, organising collaborative activities and using technology are important steps that will enable students to think innovatively. These steps will help students to be successful in their lives and careers.
